I have updated the album journal with a few new entries. The latest from this Sunday’s mix session that put the finishing touches on the song “Tiananmen Square”. I have now mixed 11 of the 15 tracks that will be on my CD. The end of this project is near and I am looking forward to the manufacturing of the actual CD’s. My hope is to be done mixing by the end of May and have the physical CD’s in hand by mid June. Words are inadequate to express the tremendous help to this project that Mike Post from Mojo Recording Studio has been. If you ever need to record some stuff here in Phoenix I recommend him and his studio as a place to do your project. Thanks for stopping by and checking in on the progress of the album.

Another Day Closer

Today I spent some time in the studio mixing tracks for my CD. I started some work on “Perceptions in the Mist” and “Baroque” which features my son Kefa on clarinet. I also think I have the final mix for “Shades of a Shadow” but you can read about is all at the bottom of the Album Journal page. An interesting opportunity presented itself today which will provide the means of manufacturing the actual CD’s to hold in your happy hands when the time comes so things are looking up on that specific detail. Mix Update

I have added my notes on the mix session of 01/17/10 to the Album Journal. If you haven’t read it yet then stop by and see how it all began and how it gets to the eventual release of the CD. The results of that session can be heard here.

In keeping with the CD theme I would like to report that I am in the process of transcribing my bass parts on this CD. I am writing the songs out in both tablature and notation. It is my hope to release a booklet of the songs so those who would be interested to learn what and where I am playing can get a copy and play along with the CD. I am doing it by hand for now but I would like to get a program to do it on my computer and print it out nice and pretty so if you have and suggestions please drop me a note at omar@omardomkus.com

What’s New In The Comming Year?

The calendar now has turned over to 2010 and here are a few things that I hope to accomplish in this new calendar year.

First and foremost I want to finish the mixing of the 15 tracks that will make up my CD. I realized that I should have been posting updates on that here and have added a link, Album Journal, that you can go to and read the story of how this process began, where it is at currently, and how it eventually ends with the release of the CD.

The obvious second goal is the release of the CD both as a download and actual CD that you can hold in your hand. My goal is to have it done and ready to go before April 2010.

I also would like to find that allusive paying gig. It is a rough road as a soloist, let alone as a bass soloist. I know that there is a gig out there and when it comes it will be at the right time and at the right place. Maybe it will come in the form of a small summer tour. We will see.

On the dream list side I would love to be able to acquire an upright acoustic bass because I really miss playing on an upright. I would love to feature the upright on my next CD but one must have one in order to write songs on it. I am in no financial position to purchase one but still dream that this will come true for me this year. I also would love to purchase a Fender Jazz fretted bass. That’s right, you read that correctly, a fretted bass. It’s OK, take a deep breath. I just want to noodle on it and flex my other skills that I rarely use. There are certain techniques that I can do on fretless that are just expressed differently on a fretted bass. I figure it is about time I broke down and considered that side of the instrument again. Like my upright situation I am in no financial situation that would accommodate the purchase of a Jazz bass right now but dreams can come true.

Evidence you say, well just look at me. I have no money and I am currently mixing my CD with a budget of “0″ on the kindness of others. “Never give up, never surrender!”
